Injury-hit hosts face no-nonsense opposition
Canada face Bosnia & Herzegovina this evening as their 2026 World Cup campaign gets underway.
The tournament co-hosts have never picked up a point at a World Cup finals, but have a decent chance of doing so today as they face Bosnia, who themselves have never made it out of the group stage.
Canada come into the match seriously shorthanded, though, after key men Alphonso Davies and Moise Bombito come into the match injured.
Davies endured a difficult campaign at Bayern Munich, making just 23 appearances and scoring only once as the Bavarians secured a domestic double.

The mantle will fall to Jonathan David to impress, then. He bagged six league goals in his debut campaign with Juventus, which came after a long-awaited move from Lille.
His opposite number will be at the centre of attention. Veteran striker Edin Dzeko, now 40, still plies his trade at Schalke 04 and will expect to reach 150 caps at this World Cup. He needs to play just twice in the group stage to hit that milestone.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on BBC One, with coverage starting at 7pm BST ahead of an 8pm kick-off.
