Carlos Vinícius was at the centre of a flashpoint in the Porto Alegre derby, throwing water at rivals during the Campeonato Gaúcho final second leg. The match finished 1-1, giving his Grêmio side a 4-1 aggregate victory.
According to Glorioso 1904, the incident came in the opening minutes when the medical team entered the pitch. As he took on fluids, the Brazilian threw water deliberately towards several Internacional players, sparking immediate confrontation.
Internacional were already chasing the tie after losing the first leg at home 3-0 to Grêmio, who are coached by Portuguese manager Luís Castro. The provocation added further tension to an already charged occasion.
Video of the episode quickly circulated on social media and became one of the game’s most talked-about moments.
For Benfica, Vinícius played 50 matches, scoring 24 goals and providing 10 assists. The 30-year-old Brazilian is valued at five million euros and won the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2019 with the Lisbon club.
