Carrascal has had his Supercopa do Brasil red-card punishment reduced to a two-match ban following a unanimous ruling by the STJD on Wednesday morning. The Flamengo forward will miss Vitória in the Copa do Brasil and Atlético-MG in the Brasileirão.
The Colombian also serves a league suspension against Bahia on Sunday for his red card in the clássico with Fluminense, so he faces three matches out in total. According to Globo.com, he had initially been handed a four-match ban last week.
Flamengo quickly obtained a suspensive effect, which allowed Carrascal to play against Bragantino and Fluminense while the case progressed.
The Supercopa final on 1 February ended in a Corinthians win over Flamengo. Late in the first half, Carrascal punched Breno Bidon. Referee Rafael Klein waited for a VAR check before half-time with no review recommended, then during the interval new images were provided and the red card was shown on the restart.
In the hearing, Flamengo argued the case should be time-barred under article 254-A’s 30-day limit, noting the 1 February dismissal, an 11 February complaint and acceptance for trial on 30 March. That thesis had been rejected in the first judgment, with auditor Luiz Gabriel Batista Neves saying acceptance would imply improper alteration, adding that at most it could be a system error.
The club also requested reclassification from article 254-A, which covers physical aggression and carries a four to 12 match range, to article 254 for violent play, one to 6 matches. This was upheld.
