The CBF has released VAR audio from the first-half collision between Everaldo and Léo Jardim in the Copa do Brasil semi-final between Vasco and Fluminense, with the goalkeeper cautioned after missing the ball and making contact with the forward outside the box.

Referee Raphael Claus ruled that the Fluminense number nine was moving away from goal, not towards it, so he did not deem the incident a red-card offence. The VAR reviewed the play and upheld the on-field decision, despite Fluminense appeals.

In the recording, video assistant Daniel Nobre Bins said the ball had already got away, there were two defenders covering and no clear direction towards goal. He added that the goalkeeper lost control after a header from outside the area with a bouncing ball, and two defenders were arriving with a chance to intervene. He therefore did not consider it a denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

The foul led to the free-kick from which Serna opened the scoring. Vasco turned it after the break through Rayan and Vegetti to win the first leg 2-1.

The return match is on Sunday at 20:30, again at the Maracanã. A Fluminense win by one goal takes the tie to penalties, a bigger margin sends them to the final. A draw or a Vasco win puts Vasco into the final.
