Celtic fans welcome Newcastle United to Glasgow for a friendly tomorrow.
Saturday 19 July will see 10,000+ NUFC fans in the official away sections.
Whilst on top of that, many United supporters having also bought tickets amongst the Celtic fans. Especially NUFC fans who don’t have season tickets and thus have no access to buy away tickets, even for friendlies.
Newcastle fans received an initial allocation of 7,200 away tickets but when that quickly sold out, Celtic keen to give more away tickets, with reports that they were struggling to sell to their own fans.
Interesting to see how the match turns out tomorrow and also what the eventual attendance turns out to be, Celtic fans giving their comments and estimate on what they think Saturday’s crowd will be.
Celtic fans comments in advance of the friendly against Newcastle United via their KDS and Talk Celtic message boards:
‘I really hope the attendance picks up for this. I’m going with my Dad who’s a big Newcastle fan (both in the Celtic end) and I don’t want it to be a Newcastle fest.’
‘Think it will mate.
I’m assuming that there will be plenty of season ticket holders who have taken tickets when they were available pre general sale despite it not being a freebie like years gone by.
Added to it looks like it’s going to be cracking weather wise according to reports and it’ll be the first opportunity to see the new players in action as well before the season starts.
I’m going to with a couple of friends who are Newcastle supporters, as well as my brother and my dad. Looking forward to it.’
‘With news Newcastle have had their allocation increased it seems obvious other ST holders are boycotting this too, we used to get a couple of free games like this on our ST’s now our board with £80m+ in the bank think it’s a great idea to scalp us for a friendly, I’m definitely not going.’
‘Good chance to win another pre season trophy on Saturday.’
‘Bit of a strange one that Celtic have announced the Newcastle game will now be on Celtic TV (UK &Ire). I can only assume the ticket sales are better than they thought?’
‘Think its the opposite, it was always going to be shown on celtic tv, they will have held off hoping to convince/con people into going. They will have now realised ticket sales are as good as they are getting.’
‘I’ve read a couple of times that the Newcastle game wasn’t selling well, but going by the stadium map on the ticket site there’s only a few hundred tickets left, mainly in the upper tier?
Or are they just not opening certain sections?’
‘They usually go section by section and have moved up to the upper tier. South stand upper tier is on sale at the moment and is almost sold out. Looking like it will be about 40k.’
