According to Globo.com, former NFL star Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson attended Carolina Panthers training wearing Palmeiras’ 1999 shirt, the year the São Paulo club won the Libertadores for the first time.

The version he chose carried the Conmebol Libertadores champions patch from that campaign. Known for wearing number 85 in the NFL, he opted for Palmeiras’ number eight, then worn by ex-midfielder César Sampaio.

Johnson shared the moment on X. Palmeiras’ official account replied, and he answered with a green heart and a pig emoji.

It was not his first public nod to the Verdão. In February this year, he also posted a photo in a Palmeiras kit.

That shirt was the 2025 primary, bearing Gabriel Jesus’s name and the number 33 he used during his spell at the club.
