In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Chelsea are ready to move in for AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan this January. It has been stated that the Blues are prepared to come to a pre-contract agreement with the French goalie this winter.

Maignan’s Impressive Record In Italian Football

Maignan enjoyed a solid campaign at the Milan club after he produced a run of impressive displays for them in Serie A. The French custodian featured in 53 matches for the Italian giants last season, shipping 59 goals and securing 15 clean sheets on all fronts.

The 30-year-old has proven his worth as one of the top keepers in Serie A over the past few years. Thus, it is no surprise that Chelsea are hoping to move in for him next year.

His current contract at San Siro will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for the Blues to try and come to a pre-contract agreement with him this January.

Will Maignan Be A Good Option For Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca?

Maignan can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few decent saves at the back for his team.

Standing at 1.91m, the French talent is a strong presence inside his penalty area. Maignan is also not afraid to come out of his lines to clear the danger when required. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Blues manage to bring him on board next year.

Maignan would enhance the quality of Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s first XI. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge.

At 30, Maignan has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. He might even help the West London club compete for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, the Blues would do well to sign him on a free transfer when his contract at AC Milan runs out next summer.
