Reece James starred for England as they eased past Andorra in their World Cup qualifier at Villa Park.

The Chelsea defender started the match and was a key part of the side keeping a clean sheet, while he was also pivotal going forward.

An own goal from Christian Gonzalez opened the scoring but England could have been ahead earlier as James’ 25th minute cross just evaded Harry Kane in the centre of the box.

With England needing a goal to wrap up the match, James crossed the ball delightfully into the area for Declan Rice to head home at the back post. The full back came off shortly after this in the 67th minute meaning that the assist was his last touch of the match.

England are now five points clear at the top of group K and face second-placed Serbia on Tuesday.

Pedro Neto was also in World Cup qualifying action for Portugal, playing the first 45 minutes against Armenia and, like James, also created a goal.

The winger’s 21st minute cross was prodded home by Cristiano Ronaldo to put Portugal 2-0 up. They would eventually go on to win the game 5-0 with former Chelsea man Joao Felix scoring twice.

Malo Gusto featured for France as he was brought on for Jules Kounde late on in their 2-0 win over Ukraine.

Marc Guiu has recently been recalled from his loan at Sunderland after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury in their match against Fulham. He featured for Spain’s under-21 squad against Cyprus.

The striker came on in the last ten minutes to help the side see out a 3-0 win.

On Thursday evening, Estevao scored for Brazil after starting alongside Chelsea teammate Joao Pedro in a 3-0 win over Chile, Andrey Santos came on for Casemiro in the second half. Marc Cucurella was on the scoresheet for Spain as they beat Bulgaria 3-0 and Moises Caicedo was left out by Ecuador.
