Blues have confirmed interim head coach until the end of the season
Former Chelsea captain John Terry says he has not been approached to join Calum McFarlane’s backroom staff following the departure of Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior was sacked as Chelsea manager on Wednesday after just 107 days in charge following a run of seven defeats in his last eight games.
Chelsea released a statement announcing Rosenior’s departure on Wednesday evening, confirming that former Under-21s head coach McFarlane would take charge of the first team until the end of the season.
McFarlane was placed in caretaker charge of the first team after Enzo Maresca’s departure in January and presided over a 1-1 draw away to Manchester City as well as a 2-1 defeat to Fulham.
Following Rosenior’s appointment, McFarlane was promoted to his backroom team, and he has now been handed the reins on an interim basis as Chelsea look to win the FA Cup and secure Champions League qualification.
Terry, who works as a part-time consultant for Chelsea’s academy, was not initially involved in McFarlane’s backroom team in January, and it does not look as though he will take up a role with the senior team for the final games of the season.
Terry has publicly stated his desire to get into management, but took to his TikTok channel to confirm he had not received a call from McFarlane asking him to join his backroom team.
“I am not sure what Calum’s backroom staff is going to look like, I have not had a call, I have not had a message,” said Terry on Wednesday night. “I will be continuing my role in the academy, I will be in the academy tomorrow, a big couple of games coming up.
“We will all get behind Calum, he did a great job away against Man City previously and we will get behind the boys because that is what we do.”
