Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo (25) in January, joining Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool in the race for the 25-year-old, according to reports from Sky Sports.
Semenyo has a £65m release clause in his contract, which becomes active from 1 January. The clause includes £60m as a fixed fee and £5m in add-ons, but it will only be available for part of the transfer window to prevent a late sale.
Manchester United and Manchester City are currently understood to be leading the race, while Liverpool are also monitoring the situation, particularly following concerns over Alexander Isak’s injury. Tottenham had shown interest earlier in the season but are no longer pursuing a deal.
Semenyo has been in strong form for Bournemouth this season, scoring eight Premier League goals, including in his last two matches. His performances have attracted widespread attention, with United head coach Ruben Amorim recently describing him as a “special player”.
Bournemouth are aware that Semenyo could leave and have planned accordingly. The club have a strong record of succession planning and are expected to look at potential replacements if a deal is agreed.
Head coach Andoni Iraola admitted Semenyo’s future is uncertain but praised his attitude. “He’s playing very well and is fully committed,” Iraola said. “I hope we can keep him, but there are things outside our control.”
Semenyo is currently focused on Bournemouth, but a busy January transfer window could yet decide his next move.
