Chelsea Chase Gittens Breakthrough as Sancho Saga Rumbles On

Gittens Targeted as Chelsea Eye Left-Wing Upgrade

Chelsea’s summer recruitment plans continue to focus on rejuvenating the flanks, with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens at the centre of negotiations. As reported by talkSPORT, the Blues are preparing a third bid for the 20-year-old after two previous offers of £30 million and £42 million were turned down.

Gittens has already agreed personal terms on a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge. “The 20-year-old only wants a move to Chelsea despite fresh links with Bayern.” This clear intent has strengthened Chelsea’s resolve, and talks are now progressing in the United States during the Club World Cup, with both sides hopeful.

Dortmund, though, remain firm on their valuation. “Chelsea are hoping to seal a transfer for around £45m and are not far off Dortmund’s valuation.” The final sticking point appears to be the payment structure, with the Bundesliga club “wanting a large proportion of the fee paid upfront.”

Despite not being seen as a tactical fit, Gittens made 49 appearances in 2024–25, contributing 12 goals and five assists. His numbers, coupled with his age and potential, make him Chelsea’s top left-wing option after ruling out a move for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams due to the financial demands.

Fenerbahce Plot Move for Sancho Amid Uncertainty

While Chelsea look forward, Manchester United remain stuck with the Sancho dilemma. After a loan spell at Stamford Bridge that failed to lead to a permanent switch, Sancho is once again in limbo. United value him at £25 million, but talkSPORT report that “it is unclear at this stage whether he would want to move to Turkey,” as Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce circle.

His next move is crucial, and while Turkish giants Fenerbahce could offer minutes and a reset, questions remain over whether the winger is open to relocating outside Europe’s top five leagues. Chelsea’s decision not to pursue a permanent deal speaks volumes, leaving Sancho at a crossroads with few clear paths.

Other Names on Chelsea’s Radar

Though Gittens is priority, Chelsea remain attentive in the market. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Lyon’s Malick Fofana are appreciated, yet neither has drawn a formal move. The club’s refusal to chase Nico Williams, with Barcelona and Bayern in the mix, signals pragmatism and budgetary discipline in an increasingly inflated market.

Our View – EPL Index

As a Chelsea fan, this Gittens move has the hallmarks of a smart long-term investment. A player who contributed 17 goal involvements last season, already set on joining us, and still only 20? That’s the kind of vision we’ve been lacking. Sure, £45 million sounds steep, but in today’s market, it’s justifiable if it avoids another drawn-out transfer circus like Caicedo.

The fact that talks are happening while both clubs are in America feels like a rare bit of strategic planning. We’ve seen deals fall apart in the final hours, but with just £5 million separating us, this one feels inevitable. And with Nico Williams now out of reach, it’s vital that we wrap this up before Bayern or someone else swoops in.

As for Sancho, it’s sad how far he’s fallen. He never really fit in at United or here. Fenerbahce might be the restart he needs, but it’s hard to see that move elevating his career. Right now, Chelsea’s left-wing future looks a lot brighter than United’s.
