Chelsea’s Struggles Could Push Joao Pedro Towards Barcelona Move

Chelsea’s ongoing battle to secure a top-six finish this season has led to fresh uncertainty surrounding the future of star player Joao Pedro. Despite a glimmer of hope that Chelsea could leapfrog Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton to qualify for Europe, the likelihood of the Blues earning a spot in next season’s Champions League remains slim.

Chelsea’s Champions League Miss Could Cost Them Big

With six consecutive Premier League defeats, Chelsea are facing the grim reality of another season without Champions League football. Even a potential finish in sixth place requires a combination of their own results and outside help from other clubs. While not entirely ruled out, Chelsea’s failure to secure a spot at Europe’s elite competition is a growing concern for several players, and Joao Pedro could be one of the first to seek pastures new.

Joao Pedro’s Departure Talk Gains Momentum

Given Chelsea’s shaky form and the looming managerial change following the sacking of Liam Rosenior, the club faces yet another summer of transition. Joao Pedro, who was brought in for £60million from Brighton only last summer, has reportedly caught the eye of Barcelona. Shaun Wright-Phillips, a former Chelsea player, has urged the Brazilian to make the move.

“I believe it would be fantastic for Joao if he were to go,” Wright-Phillips told Somos Fanaticos via The Standard. “Personally, given the way Chelsea has been run, if I were him, I would do everything to complete this transfer.”

Wright-Phillips also stressed that a move to Barcelona could elevate Pedro’s career. “Playing at Camp Nou, alongside Raphinha and [Yamine] Lamal, would be great for him,” he added. “He would score many goals, since we have already seen what he did in a team that wasn’t as good as this Chelsea team.”

Pedro Deserves Champions League Football

The former Chelsea winger went on to add that Pedro’s talent deserves to be showcased on the biggest stage: “If I were Joao Pedro, I would want to play in the Champions League, and I can’t see Chelsea qualifying for any European competition. Joao has the level and deserves to be playing in the Champions League.”

As Chelsea’s Champions League ambitions hang in the balance, the future of Pedro looks increasingly uncertain, with a move to Barcelona appearing to be a distinct possibility.
