TeamTalk reports that Tottenham interim manager Igor Tudor is expected to leave by mutual consent, with former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton considered a viable option before next month’s trip to Sunderland.
Tudor took charge last month after Thomas Frank’s departure and began with a 4-1 home loss to Arsenal. He is winless in five league games, his only point a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
His only win was a 3-2 home victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, not enough after a 5-2 first-leg loss in Spain. A 3-0 home defeat to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest then left Spurs one point and one place above the drop zone.
The report said weeks of internal talks preceded the decision, with an understanding that a change would follow defeat to Forest. It added that Tudor is ready to step away after the death of his father, Mario.
A shortlist is said to include former Monaco manager Adi Hutter and Hughton. Hughton made over 300 appearances for Spurs and spent 14 years on the staff in various roles.
He left in February 2008 to join Newcastle as first-team coach, later taking the job permanently after an interim spell. He remains the last manager to lead Newcastle to a home Tyne-Wear derby win in October 2010.
If Spurs do change manager, the new interim’s first game would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12, with the Black Cats chasing Europe and aiming to deepen their visitors’ relegation worries.
