Harry Maguire’s remarkable resurgence has only continued upon his return from injury this season, with the centre-half claiming the Man of the Match award on Sunday evening.

It says something that, in a game with three Manchester United goalscorers, all of which were scintillating finishes, and Bruno Fernandes at his usual best, Maguire was deemed the best out of all 22 players on the pitch in North London.

The England international earned a rating of seven on Fotmob after making eight final-third passes, two recoveries, one tackle, one block and a whopping nine clearances. He also won 100 per cent of his ground duels and aerial duels contested.

On X/Twitter, the official Premier League account shared a snap of Maguire with his award while hailing his performance as ‘colossal’.

Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha technically won the game for United with their attacking exploits. However, the fact that the Gunners recorded 57 per cent of possession, had 15 shots on goal and nine corners whilst scoring only once from their own players just epitomises the stalwart shifts Maguire and his defensive counterparts put in.

Lisandro Martinez was unfortunate to get the last touch of the ball when Arsenal found their opener. Their second was, unsurprisingly, a scrappy goal from a corner, in which the hosts piled on Senne Lammens in their usual fashion before Mikel Merino was able to poke the ball in.

Yet, their brief hope in the stadium made it all the more sweeter when Cunha beat David Raya with a long-range strike just three minutes later to restore United’s lead and, eventually, all three points.

The result confirmed that the Reds finished matchweek 23 in fourth place – a point above Chelsea and two ahead of Liverpool.

They take on Fulham next Sunday in a 2pm kick-off at Old Trafford.
