Conflict In City Council Over AC Milan & Inter Milan New San Siro Plans | OneFootball

Milan City Council has erupted with infighting over the decision to sell San Siro and its surrounding land to AC & Inter Milan.

The resolution came that meant the two clubs would be able to purchase the land.

Therefore, they can start to begin work on a new stadium project.

However, the new stadium will see an estimated 90% of the current one knocked down.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, report today that councillors are at war over the resolution to sell the stadium.

The newspaper highlight that there has been criticism from the centre-right over failure to meet deadlines for convening the committee.

Meanwhile, the project is opposed by those on the left.

Some have even asked that the project consult Environment councillor Elene Grandi, after she already expressed a negative opinion.

The council itself provided a ‘non-vote’ on the issue.

The reports note that the council do not make the decisions themselves.

Instead, they simply examine the resolutions and put them forward to the chamber to vote on.

Vice-president of the ‘Yes Meazza’ committee Claudio Trotta said that “In June and July alone, concert rentals generate roughly the same amount (€10 million) that Milan & Inter owe to the council every year.”

“This is why the stadium is able to sustain itself financially even without the two teams.”
