Corinthians chase fifth successive Copa do Brasil quarter-final at Internacional | OneFootball

Corinthians resume their Copa do Brasil campaign on Sunday, visiting Internacional at 19:30 in the first leg of the last 16. The club are chasing a fifth straight place in the quarter-finals.

According to Meu Timao, this is their 30th campaign and they have missed the last 16 only twice, in 2017 and 2021. Of their previous 27 appearances at this stage, they advanced 17 times and went out 10 times.

Their debut in 1989 saw them beat Tiradentes in the last 16, then lose to Flamengo in the quarter-finals. In 2017 they were knocked out by Internacional in the fourth round on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw. In 2021 they exited to Atlético Goianiense in the third round.

Corinthians come in on a run of four successive last-16 triumphs. They eliminated Santos in 2022, then edged Remo on penalties in 2023 and Grêmio the following year after two goalless legs. In 2025 they beat Palmeiras 3-0 on aggregate and went on to lift the trophy against Vasco da Gama.

They are bidding for a fifth title after wins in 1995, 2002, 2009 and 2025, and have also finished runners-up in 2001, 2008, 2018 and 2022. A successful defence would deliver back-to-back crowns, while Fernando Diniz could claim the first national cup of his managerial career.
