Corinthians are close to clearing their treatment room before the Clássico Alvinegro, with an 11-day break helping three injured players return to training with the squad. According to Meu Timao, the trio were not available against Coritiba on Wednesday but should travel to the Baixada Santista this weekend for the derby with Santos.
Forwards Kaio César and Yuri Alberto had already rejoined the group last week. Midfielder Matheus Pereira linked up with the squad on Friday.
Pereira had been doing light work at CT Joaquim Grava since the third of this month, the final stage of his recovery from a grade 2 injury to the left hamstring. He suffered the problem in the 1-0 win over Athletico-PR at the Arena da Baixada more than three weeks ago.
Only two players remain sidelined. Reserve goalkeeper Felipe Longo, understudy to Hugo Souza, sprained a ligament in his right elbow during training and could resume work in the coming days. Left-back Hugo Farias underwent arthroscopy on his right knee after a lateral meniscus injury and is not due back until the second half of the year.
With almost the entire squad available, Dorival Júnior oversaw Friday’s penultimate session before the derby, which also saw around 20 organised fan representatives meet the players after training. Santos v Corinthians is on Sunday at 16:00 in the sixth round of the Brasileirão.
