Corinthians miss loan payment, TV rights income to be docked until 2029

Corinthians will undergo important changes in its financial flow starting this year due to the non-early settlement of a R$ 150 million loan obtained from Liga Forte União (LFU). The agreement, brokered through XP Investimentos, was made during the administration of former president Augusto Melo, covering the club’s broadcasting rights in the Brazilian Championship from 2025 to 2029.

According to the contract, whose details were revealed in a report by Gazeta Esportiva, Timão could have repaid this amount in full by October, which would have eliminated the interest and guaranteed credits to the club starting in 2026. However, due to the delicate financial situation, the board was unable to exercise this contractual condition.

Now, this amount is officially considered a loan and is subject to an interest rate of CDI+3, directly impacting the club’s revenue. According to the agreement, LFU guarantees Corinthians a base revenue of approximately R$ 210 million per season, which could reach R$ 250 million in case of a national title.

However, due to the obligation to pay off the loan, the club will now receive about R$ 180 million per year — that is, an average reduction of R$ 30 million annually, already in effect this season. In practice, this represents a reduction of about 14% in this specific revenue per year.

Another relevant detail of the contract with LFU concerns the division of broadcasting quotas, following three criteria: 45% of the total is divided equally among the clubs, 30% according to performance in the championship, and 25% based on each team’s audience. Regarding the audience award, there is a limit of 9.5% of the amount reserved for this criterion for the club ranked highest, regardless of achieving a higher audience.
