Corinthians move up to second in the Under-20 Brasileirão after away win

On the late afternoon of this Monday (2), Corinthians visited Grêmio at the Airton Ferreira da Silva Stadium in Eldorado do Sul (RS), in a match valid for the third round of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, and won by a score of 3 x 1. The goals for Timãozinho were scored by forward Luiz Fernando ‘Luizinho’, midfielder Luiz Gustavo Bahia, and winger Nicollas.

The result moved the Filhos do Terrão from sixth to second place in the national competition with seven points – two wins and one draw – nine goals scored and three conceded. The club from Parque São Jorge shares the runner-up position in the tournament with Palmeiras, having an advantage in goal difference – six against four of the archrival.

Currently, the leader of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship is Vasco da Gama with nine points, that is, with a 100% success rate. Besides the three mentioned teams, the current top eight teams that would qualify for the knockout stage if the first phase ended this round are: Santos (six points), Cruzeiro (six points), Flamengo (six points), Bahia (four points), and Botafogo (four points).

The club from Parque São Jorge will now remain focused on the national competition. Timãozinho will face Fortaleza at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, for the fourth round of the national competition. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not yet released the details of the match – date and time. The match is expected to take place only at the beginning of April.
