Fagner is expected to end his Corinthians contract on Monday, with termination papers due to be signed within hours.
According to Meu Timao, the agreement could save about eight million reais once salary and severance are factored in.
The move has been driven by the player and Cruzeiro, who had verbally aligned a permanent deal for 2026, but talks slowed over club debts owed to Fagner.
Cruzeiro view termination as the cleanest way to sign him for free, while Corinthians would reduce the wage bill, a 2026 priority.
The trade-off is losing the defender for nothing. Fagner could sign a pre-contract with any club from one July.
Matheuzinho is the only recognised right-back, and a transfer ban blocks registrations, so Fagner would otherwise have been immediate cover for the current number two.
He joined Cruzeiro in early 2025, playing 17 times with one assist, then missed four months with a right fibula fracture suffered in a 0-0 draw with CRB in the Copa do Brasil.
His Corinthians career could end on 578 games, 12 goals, 70 assists and five trophies, three Paulistas and two Brasileiros. He is second for appearances by a right-back and second among all players this century.
