Corinthians’ Advisory Council (CORI) gave the green light last Monday to the payment plan presented by Osmar Stabile, the club’s president, to settle the debt with Argentina’s Talleres related to the signing of attacking midfielder Rodrigo Garro, completed in early 2024.

The agreement between the parties is close to being finalized. Corinthians and Talleres are working on the final contract adjustments to formalize the deal. The total amount owed is estimated at around R$ 40 million. In an interview with ge.globo, Osmar Stabile explained what stage the talks are at.

“It was approved (the payment plan), and now we are in the final stage of negotiations, exchanging documents and draft agreements. It is very close to being finalized so we can make the payment. At this moment, we cannot make any comment about it, also out of respect for Talleres. But CORI approved it,” Stabile said.

“It only depends on us approving these draft agreements, which is the work currently being done. There is a team working exclusively on this. I believe that as soon as possible, perhaps still this week or at the beginning of next week, we will have the final outcome,” he added.

Recently, Stabile was in Argentina alongside Corinthians financial manager André Lavieri on a trip aimed at speeding up talks with Talleres president Andrés Fassi. The executive had previously praised the approach taken by Corinthians’ current board.

The dispute between Corinthians and Talleres regarding Garro’s transfer has dragged on since the start of the negotiations. The Argentine club claimed it was entitled to receive US$ 612,000 for operating costs and taxes involved in the transaction, while Corinthians questioned its responsibility for that payment. This deadlock delayed the player’s registration at the beginning of 2024.

Initially, Corinthians paid US$ 4 million for the signing. Later, Talleres took the case to FIFA, demanding US$ 3 million related to still-unpaid installments. FIFA ruled that Corinthians must pay Talleres US$ 3,612,000 (R$ 19,463,262), plus 18% annual interest, in addition to a fine of US$ 722,400 (R$ 3,893,952.72).
