Corinthians return academy youngster after losing U20 spot

The Corinthians under-20 team continues to see departures before starting preparations for the next Copinha. The latest loss was Gustavo Baiano, a 19-year-old left-back who was on loan to Timão but belongs to Retrô-PE, and was returned due to the management's lack of interest in acquiring the player. The information was initially reported by Meu Timão and confirmed by Central do Timão.

Gustavo Baiano lost his spot after William Batista took over as coach, although he was frequently used by Orlando Ribeiro in the Paulistão and Brasileirão Sub-20 competitions. He arrived as a midfielder but was moved to left-back. He played a total of 27 matches.

The player's loan contract was valid until January 31, allowing him to be registered by Timão for the 2026 Copinha, which ends on the 25th of the first month of the year. However, since William Batista preferred other players, the loan was terminated early.

For the left-back position, Corinthians is hopeful for the return of Denner for the Copa São Paulista. He is in England recovering from knee meniscus surgery and is expected to return to Brazil to join Timãozinho for the competition. It is worth noting that he is sold to Chelsea and will leave Parque São Jorge in July 2026.

While trying to renew with standout players from the youth categories, Corinthians continues to release athletes who did not perform well in the base. Counting only under-17 and under-20, the management has already released 36 athletes, most of whom were hired during the previous administration of Claudinei Alves.
