Coventry City head to Blackburn Rovers this evening with Championship promotion tantalisingly close.
Frank Lampard’s side will be promoted to the Premier League this evening, if they avoid defeat at Ewood Park. Promotion would mark a return to the top flight for the first time since 2001, with Lampard having had a remarkable impact at the club.
Coventry’s promotion is almost certain. The league leaders would need to lose their last four games, with Millwall winning their final four, alongside a 33 goal-difference swing to not be a Premier League team next season. However, Coventry will want to confirm their promotion party this evening.
Blackburn are just as in need of the points. Rovers are 20th in the table and only four points above the Championship’s relegation places.
Lampard has almost a full squad to select from for tonight’s trip to the North West. The only doubt is the fitness of Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, who has a rib injury. Sakamoto missed the goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday after sustaining the issue against Hull on Easter Monday.
Following that stalemate, Lampard could look to freshen up his attack. Ellis Simms is an option to come into the team against the side he spent time with as a youth player.
Possible Coventry XI: Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Latibeaudiere, Kitching, Dasilva; Onyeka, Grimes; Thomas-Asante, Rudoni, Mason-Clark; Wright.
Blackburn Rovers host Coventry City in the EFL Championship on Friday 17th April 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm BST.
