Cristiano Ronaldo has won his long-running pay dispute with Juventus after their appeal at the Turin Labour Court was rejected, leaving the club unable to recoup money already transferred to him.
According to Goal.com, the case arose from salaries deferred during the Covid-19 pandemic, when Ronaldo and team-mates agreed delays in March 2020 and April 2021 as matches were played without fans and finances tightened.
Ronaldo pursued legal action after the deferred sums did not arrive. He sought £17m, the full net amount he had been promised, and also moved to secure £8.5 million after the deferments, labelled salary manoeuvres, were not reflected in Juventus’ accounts.
An initial arbitration split responsibility between player and club, ordering Juventus to pay half of his claim. The Bianconeri paid 50% in April 2024, and president Gianluca Ferrero later said in November 2024 there was no need for a risk fund because the amounts had been settled.
Ferrero also confirmed an appeal to the Turin court. That challenge has now failed, with Judge Gian Luca Robaldo upholding the 2024 decision.
While the verdict is a setback for the club, it will not bring a fresh financial hit as the payment had already been booked in the 2023-24 budget.
