Jorge Jesus has acknowledged that Al-Hilal have more economic power than Al-Nassr, framing Cristiano Ronaldo’s brief strike over spending disparities among Public Investment Fund-backed clubs. The 41-year-old has now returned.

The Saudi Pro League said in a statement that clubs act independently under the same rules and financial framework, with recruitment and spending set by each club, and that no individual dictates decisions beyond their own team.

Ronaldo withdrew from selection, disillusioned by rivals’ spending, with Karim Benzema’s switch from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal seen as the final straw. He ended his protest in a 2-0 win over Al-Fateh while chasing 1,000 career goals.

Jesus, a former Al-Hilal coach, said he benefited from their resources and understands Ronaldo’s stance. He argues Al-Nassr must compete with different means, and he was hired to narrow the gap in titles and points as the club strengthens both squad and staff.

Criticism has included calls for Ronaldo to respect the league or leave. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner still seeks a first major trophy in the Middle East, having lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.

Looking ahead, Jesus says Al-Nassr are one point off the leaders and, unlike recent seasons when they trailed by 16 or 14, want to stay in the title race to the end. He adds that he does not know what will happen but remains confident they can compete.
