Crystal Palace find themselves at the centre of this summer’s transfer drama with Tottenham and Liverpool circling for two of their most valuable assets. As reported by The Mirror, Eberechi Eze remains a £60m target for Spurs while Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi continues, albeit with negotiations stalling as the Eagles refuse to back down.
Tottenham had been hoping to close the Eze deal quickly, yet they are encountering the firm stance of Steve Parish and his board. The reported fee, “likely to be £55m plus £5m in add-ons”, underlines the scale of investment Spurs are prepared to make. But Palace, who kick off their Europa Conference League campaign against Fredrikstad this week, appear intent on ensuring their squad remains intact until after those crucial fixtures.
As the article highlights, “Palace chairman wants to keep his prize assets until after the start of their Europa Conference League campaign”, a line that perfectly sums up the current dynamic.
At 27, Eze is at a stage where his ambitions stretch beyond Selhurst Park. He has reportedly made it clear that he welcomes a move to Spurs, especially with Champions League football on offer and England selection very much in his sights. Tottenham’s need for creativity has only grown following James Maddison’s long-term injury, and Eze fits the profile of a player capable of filling that void.

Palace are aware of the situation and have already been linked with replacements including Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis. Such names indicate the club are preparing contingencies should Eze finally be prised away.
Meanwhile, Guehi’s contract situation complicates matters further. With just a year remaining on his deal, Liverpool’s interest makes sense. As The Mirror reports, “Liverpool are keen but it would have to be at the right price as he is a free agent next year”. That caveat places Palace in a tricky position. They must weigh the value of keeping a key defender for another campaign against the risk of losing him for nothing in 12 months.

Even amid the speculation, Guehi and Eze have both remained involved on the pitch. Eze had a free-kick goal disallowed against Chelsea, with Guehi penalised for an infringement. It was a reminder of their importance to Oliver Glasner’s plans, despite the external noise.
Arsenal also admire Eze, with Mikel Arteta known to be a long-time admirer. However, the Gunners are not currently in a financial position to enter the bidding. That leaves Tottenham in pole position, albeit under the watchful eye of Palace’s hierarchy who remain determined to control the timing and the terms of any departure.
From a Crystal Palace supporter’s perspective, this saga is deeply unsettling. Every fan knows Eberechi Eze has the ability to light up a game, and losing him to Tottenham would feel like a bitter blow, especially given how he has spoken in the past about his affection for the club. His set-piece threat, dribbling and ability to carry the ball through midfield are irreplaceable qualities. When we read that “Eze clearly feels the time could be right for him to move on”, it only reinforces the sense of inevitability that he will not be here much longer.
Marc Guehi’s case may be even more complicated. Palace have always struggled to keep their best defenders when the elite come calling, and with his contract running down the fear is that we will either lose him now or see him walk away on a free. For fans, that scenario feels like a lose-lose. We want him in the team, but financially the club cannot afford to allow another Aaron Wan-Bissaka-style saga where top talent departs under conditions we do not dictate.
The bigger worry is the timing. With European football about to begin, fans are desperate for stability. Yet the prospect of losing two England internationals in the final days of the window could undo much of the progress Oliver Glasner has made. Yes, Parish has built a reputation as a tough negotiator, but from the stands it often feels like brinkmanship that risks weakening the squad at the worst possible moment.
The hope is that Palace can reinvest wisely if sales are sanctioned, but history tells us recruitment rarely moves at the same speed as departures. For fans, it is not just about money, it is about ambition. Keeping Eze and Guehi would be a statement that Palace are not simply a selling club, but once again we find ourselves anxiously refreshing the news feeds, wondering who will still be wearing red and blue come September.
