Former Albion coach Damia Abella has joined Fiorentina as a technical collaborator, linking up with new head coach Fabio Grosso.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 44-year-old spent more than three and a half years on the staff at The Hawthorns after arriving at the end of 2022 during Carlos Corberan’s tenure.

The Catalan, a Barcelona academy graduate who also worked at Watford, served as Albion’s statistical analyst with cross-department duties including set-pieces.

He stayed after Corberan’s exit in December 2024, spending another 18 months under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, plus James Morrison’s caretaker spell. He left this summer, having also achieved his UEFA A Licence, the highest available.

In Florence he will report to Grosso, the former left-back who became a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006. He scored the semi-final winner and the decisive penalty in the final against France.

Grosso was appointed this summer, having previously managed Sassuolo and Lyon among others.

Abella described the move as a very special stage, thanked Grosso and the club for their trust, and said he is excited to commit fully and contribute to the project.

The Tuscany club are two-time Serie A winners but finished 15th in the Italian top flight last season.
