Former West Brom coach Damia Abella joins Fabio Grosso’s Fiorentina staff | OneFootball

Former West Brom coach Damia Abella has joined Fiorentina as a technical collaborator, working under newly appointed head coach Fabio Grosso.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 44-year-old left Albion this summer after more than three and a half years on the staff, having arrived in late 2022 soon after Carlos Corberan took charge.

A Barcelona academy graduate who also worked at Watford, the Catalan served as a statistical analyst at The Hawthorns with responsibilities across departments, including set pieces.

He stayed on following Corberan’s departure in December 2024, serving under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, and during James Morrison’s caretaker spell.

Abella described the switch as a particularly special step, thanked Grosso and the club for their trust, and said he is excited to commit fully and contribute to the project.

Grosso, Italy’s 2006 World Cup hero, scored the semi-final winner and converted the decisive penalty in the final against France. He was named Fiorentina boss this summer, having previously managed Sassuolo and Lyon.

The Tuscan club are two-time Serie A champions and finished 15th in the top flight last season.
