Dani Ceballos has agreed to end his time at Real Madrid, terminating his deal to become a free agent on one July. The Betis academy product departs a year before the original 2027 expiry, forgoing around five million euros net.
The club said in a statement that both sides had reached a mutual agreement. José Mourinho’s arrival, with Ceballos not in his plans, accelerated the move, and Madrid will free up about 10 million euros gross per year from the wage bill.
Betis, long unwilling to pay a fee, will now open talks to offer a long term deal that could be four years plus an optional extra season, spreading the salary across the term. Ceballos is a boyhood Betis supporter.
At Madrid he won three Champions Leagues, two Ligas and the 2023 Copa del Rey. His haul also includes three Club World Cups, the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and three Spanish Super Cups.
In a farewell message, Ceballos said it had been a difficult decision after a challenging year, and thanked the president, coaches, team-mates, staff and supporters. He said he leaves at peace, proud of his effort in the shirt, and that Real Madrid will always be part of him.
