Dani Ceballos has ended his nine-year spell at Real Madrid after agreeing to terminate his contract, and he will become a free agent on one July.

According to Superdeporte, the agreement arrives a year before his deal was due to run to 2027, with the midfielder forgoing around five million euros net. The arrival of José Mourinho, with Ceballos not in his plans, helped to speed up the decision. Madrid also free up a high salary slot worth roughly 10 million euros gross per season.

Real Betis, long unwilling to pay a fee, will look to open talks over a long-term contract, potentially four years plus an optional extra season, spreading wages across several campaigns. A return would reunite the boyhood Betis fan with the club where he came through the academy.

Ceballos joined Madrid in 2017 and has made 215 appearances for the first team across seven seasons, collecting 16 trophies including three European Cups, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and a range of domestic and international Super Cups.

In a farewell message, he thanked the club, coaches, team-mates, employees and supporters, saying he leaves with pride and lasting memories. Madrid expressed gratitude for his commitment and wished him and his family well, adding the club will always be his home.
