Daniel James: I am always ready to make a difference | OneFootball

Leeds winger Daniel James has rejoined the Welsh national team as the Dragons get set to face Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in World Cup Qualifiers.

James spoke with the media ahead of the game, discussing the injury that sidelined him last month, Wales’ upcoming games and Ethan Ampadu’s role in the Cymru squad.

“It is frustrating but that's part of football and you've just got to do everything you can to get back on the pitch,” James said. “I'm just happy that I'm fit and healthy now and ready to go.

“I feel in a really good place at the moment. I'm just working as hard as I can, putting everything into training so that I'm ready to come away for Wales, but also ready to come on the pitch for Leeds, even if I'm not starting. Mentally, I am always ready to make a difference.”

James, who did not play during the last international break due to injury, praised his team’s fight in defeats against England and Belgium.

“We went toe-to-toe with Belgium,” he reflected, before adding: “We've just got to look at those games and see what we can do better for the next two.

“There's no easy pathway to the World Cup but we don’t look past the next game against Liechtenstein. It's going to be a tough test and we have to go into that game just like every other game, believing that we can win.”

And, with Welsh captain Ben Davies injured, James responded to questions about the possibility of Whites skipper Ampadu taking the armband for his country.

“I think he's obviously been an incredible captain for Leeds. I think a lot of people forget how young he is with how long he’s been around. He’s a great leader on and off the pitch.

“Obviously, it’s not my choice, but it’s a role I think Ethan could really step up to.”
