Chelsea’s summer is progressing well and there are a number of players who have been sold in the last week or will go before too long.
Amongst all the chaos, one name has been almost totally forgotten. David Datro Fofana has been a bit of a disaster signing for Chelsea in January 2023 (mercifully not an excessively costly one). There never really seemed like a solid development plan for him, and he’s been out injured since February, cutting short a middling loan at Besiktas.
TeamTalk today report that he’s fit again and that Chelsea are “open to selling him this summer,” perhaps the least surprising news of the summer so far.
They claim that Fofana is seen as a “strong option in the market”, with teams from France and Italy showing “concrete interest” in the former Molde man. Teams were bidding around €15m last summer according to reports.
We wouldn’t imagine we will get that much now – but something like the £10m we paid for him would probably get the job done. He showed flashes of quality on his loan to Burnley a couple of years ago, and that may be enough for someone to take a punt on him.

In other striker news, a Tweet from Ben Jacobs this afternoon reveals that Newcastle’s interest in Nicolas Jackson has gone to another level – they have actually had club to club talks with Chelsea about a move.
It still feels a way off, but there is slow and steady progress being made, and if the Magpies can’t secure another striker by the deadline they may well find themselves under real pressure to sign the Senegal star. That can only work to our benefit.
