Davizão: Palmeiras youngster with unusual arrival dreams of Libertadores

This Saturday (6th), Palmeiras begins its quest for a third Under-13 Libertadores title in Paraguay, with the presence of defender Davi Lucas, known as Davizão, a young player with an unusual story within the club.

Born in Campinas, Davi began his football journey at the age of four, encouraged by his father, Alex Carvalho, a former amateur player. He went through various soccer schools and found the ideal place to establish himself at Cosmopolitano, a club from Cosmópolis, in the metropolitan region of Campinas. In less than a year at the club, he caught the attention of Palmeiras, who closely monitored his performance until making his signing official in 2024.

The story of the defender's arrival at Palmeiras is different. While undergoing trials at the Football Academy in São Paulo, he continued playing for the Cosmópolis club. It was during a match between the two teams that the young player's destiny changed, and he signed with the Verdão.

“There’s no way to forget the day he was called up. Davi was under evaluation at Palmeiras for almost five months, but it was only after standing out against the club itself, in a Paulista Championship match for Cosmopolitano, that everything changed. When the coach called him over to talk, it was a turning point. From then on, the dream began to become reality,” recalls the athlete’s mother, Josimara Carvalho.

At 13 years old, Davizão is now experiencing a milestone in his career: playing in his first Libertadores, defending the green-and-white team. The weight of responsibility, however, is faced with maturity by someone who has had to fight from a young age to continue in football.

In addition to his talent on the field, the family highlights discipline and dedication as the boy’s trademarks.

“Davi is very responsible and focused on his goals. He’s disciplined with training, diet, and sleep. When he faced an injury, he showed maturity in recovering and staying firm in what he wanted. He’s always looking to improve and help those around him. He’s a kind boy, who dreams big and is prepared for great challenges, like the Libertadores,” his mother adds.

In Search of the Third Title

Palmeiras and the young Davizão face Gen Chile this Saturday (6th), at 3:30 PM, in the group stage of the Under-13 Libertadores, a competition in which Verdão is the current champion and is seeking a third title – in addition to 2024, they also won in 2022.

Verdão secured a spot in the Under-13 Libertadores by winning the CBF Development League, a tournament equivalent to the Brazilian Championship for the category. In March, the team defeated Flamengo 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy.

In this year’s edition, Palmeiras is in Group A, alongside GEN Chile-CHL, Liga de Santander-COL, Máquina Celeste-BOL, and Naranja Mekánica-VEN. In Group B are Atlético Camino-VEN, Aufi-URU, Cerro Porteño-PAR, Newell’s Old Boys-ARG, and Universitario-PER. The teams play each other within their groups, and the top two from each group advance to the semifinals.

The Under-13 Verdão is aiming for its fourth title of the season. In addition to the CBF Development League, the team has already won the Sanca Cup and the New Cup.
