Dayo Upamecano’s future is turning into a real stress test for FC Bayern. As revealed in the latest episode of the BILD podcast„Bayern Insider“, only three clubs are still realistic options for the 27-year-old central defender: the German record champions, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain
„That’s true – three clubs between which the future of Dayo Upamecano will be decided,“ emphasizes BILD chief reporter Tobi Altschäffl
The race for the defender is intensifying as the clock ticks ever louder: Upamecano is officially allowed to negotiate with other clubs from January 1 – his contract expires in June 2026

Munich want to extend Kompany’s contract at all costs. Internally, there is cautious optimism, even if the talks are difficult. „There is cautious optimism that it could work out,“ says Altschäffl
President Herbert Hainer also revealed this week that he is „optimistic“. Coach Vincent Kompany plays a central role in this. The relationship between coach and player is considered to be exceptionally close – Kompany’s trust has allowed Upamecano to hit top form this season
Jonathan Tah, a close friend of the Frenchman, could also be a factor: Bayern see the pair as a future defensive axis
The problem: Bayern’s rivals are two European heavyweights, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain
The Whites have been showing interest for months and, according to BILD, were in the running early on. Head of soccer Christian Falk warns: „Real are up for it – and they have a need.“
Upamecano is a logical candidate in view of Madrid’s age structure: Militao is struggling for fitness, Nacho is 34 and Alaba and Rüdiger are still injured. Real are looking for long-term stability – and Upamecano fits the profile perfectly
PSG is considered the most dangerous competitor for Bayern – above all because of Upamecano’s advisor Moussa Sissoko, who has excellent connections to Paris. „PSG can pay – especially the hand money,“ emphasizes Falk
PSG are tempting him with a massive pay rise, a high hand money, a return home and a long-term role as a defensive leader. After his outstanding performance against PSG, the desire continues to grow
Upamecano currently earns around 16 million euros – and wants to significantly increase this in his new contract. Bayern are prepared to stretch themselves. According to BILD information, the possible package is 18-20 million euros including bonuses. The sticking point is the hand money – and this is precisely where PSG are financially superior
Interestingly, Bayern want a decision before 1 January in order to prevent Upamecano from entering into official talks with Real or PSG. „Bayern are putting pressure on us – they want a signature before 1 January,“ explains Altschäffl
