Defender developed at Corinthians set for Ceará reunion in the Brasileirão

Next Sunday (9), at 4 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians will host Ceará at the Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. At the moment, the Alvinegro is in tenth place with 42 points (11 wins, nine draws, and 12 losses – 35 goals scored and 37 conceded).

The match will be special for the defender João Pedro Tchoca, 21, who had a loan spell at Ceará in the second half of last year, being crucial in the team's campaign to reach the national elite last season – after two consecutive years in Serie B.

In a statement sent to Central do Timão, the defender commented on his reunion with the northeastern team, highlighting his gratitude to the former club: “It will be a special game for me, as it is against a former club that allowed me to develop and have a greater professional experience. I am grateful to Ceará, but today, of course, my mind is 100% focused on Corinthians and on being able to help the team on the field in the best possible way. I see this match as motivation for me and for us to seek another great result in front of the Fiel,” he began.

Tchoca was promoted to the professional squad of Corinthians right after winning the 2024 São Paulo Cup against Cruzeiro, in which he was a starter alongside Renato. However, initially, he did not have much playing time with Antônio Oliveira and Ramón Díaz and was loaned to Ceará. There, he was one of the pillars in the final stretch of the Serie B campaign, which resulted in the team's promotion to the elite after three years. At the beginning of this season, he was reintegrated into the Alvinegro squad and was part of the 2025 Paulista Championship squad.

Currently, the defender is experiencing his longest sequence in the professional squad of Corinthians – six consecutive games – surpassing the sequence at the beginning of February this year (five consecutive games) for the Paulista Championship and Pre-Libertadores. The defender played 540 minutes (excluding injury time) in the last five matches of the Alvinegro, all in the Brasileirão, against Mirassol, Santos, Atlético-MG, Vitória, Grêmio, and RB Bragantino.

Previously, the same sequence between February 3 and 19, 2025, when he played five consecutive games in matches for the Paulista Championship (Novorizontino, Palmeiras, São Bernardo FC, and Santos) and Universidad Central-VEN (Pre-Libertadores). Of these, he was only not a starter in the derby against Palmeiras, when he replaced midfielder Alex Santana at halftime.

“I am very happy with the sequence I have been having with the Corinthians jersey and, mainly, for being able to help the club on the field. I see myself in a good moment and I will continue to dedicate myself to the maximum to increase this sequence and represent the Corinthians jersey even more, win titles and make our fans proud,” he commented.

In recent months, João Pedro Tchoca has been surpassing the competition from Félix Torres, Cacá, and André Ramalho – the latter recently returned from injury – in the sector, being the “second” in the hierarchy, as he has been forming a duo with Gustavo Henrique. In total, with the Corinthians jersey, there are 27 games (21 as a starter), with 15 wins, eight draws, and four losses. Additionally, he scored one goal and provided one assist.
