Manchester United have received good news from the training ground, with Sekou Kone recovering from the horrific injury scare he suffered last month.

Although he has yet to make an appearance with the first team, the 19-year-old is considered one of the club’s most exciting youth prospects. The Malian joined MUFC in 2024, completing a move from Guidars FC.

Sadly for the young man, he has had a tough time with injuries since his arrival at Carrington. Last November, Sekou sustained an ankle injury on his debut with Man United U21, thus derailing his momentum. He then managed to overcome the issue and became a regular feature in Ruben Amorim’s senior squad training sessions last season.

Sekou Kone has been unlucky with injuries since joining Man United

For the second season in a row, the defensive midfielder began his campaign on the wrong foot. This time, Kone was stretchered off the pitch following a scary head injury he suffered following a collision with an opponent, which caused a fracture of the eye socket.

This incident occurred during a U21 National League Cup game against Tamworth in mid-August. The match had to be postponed, as no other ambulance was available on the ground once the Man Utd teenager had been rushed to the hospital.

Kone has returned to grass training

Luckily for Kone, he has managed to overcome this injury rather swiftly. In his latest update on Centre Devils, Man Utd insider Sully reveals that the youngster has now returned to grass training, albeit he’s still working individually.

The source adds that the ‘unplayable’ midfielder was once linked with a loan move to Swiss first-tier side Lausanne-Sport (another club in INEOS’ orbit), but Amorim and his staff liked what they saw from the player in pre-season, so they asked the hierarchy to keep him at Carrington.

Therefore, Kone is expected to receive his first-team debut at some point this season, albeit opportunities will be limited amidst the lack of midweek football for United.
