Kingsley Coman’s departure from FC Bayern was apparently much more complicated than previously known. New details have now come to light about the Frenchman’s move to Saudi Arabia

Kingsley Coman was one of the defining players at FC Bayern for many years, which made the Frenchman’s move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia last summer all the more surprising

As BILD now reports, Munich are said to have worked hard internally to secure the winger’s departure – even via WhatsApp

According to the report, FC Bayern sent Coman a message at the end of July 2025 advising him to reconsider a move to the Saudi Pro League

According to the report, the Frenchman actually wanted to stay in Munich at the time, but Bayern bosses are said to have increased the pressure in the following weeks to get the transfer over the line after all

In the end, Coman moved to Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al Nassr, with the German record champions receiving a transfer fee of around 25 million euros

Bayern urgently needed transfer income

The background to the sale is said to have been primarily of a financial nature

Bayern had already signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool FC shortly beforehand, transferring around 70 million euros to England for the Colombian international

The income from the Coman transfer therefore apparently came at just the right time for Bayern

The signing of Diaz subsequently paid off in sporting terms, with the attacking player impressing in his first season with a strong 26 goals and 23 assists in 51 competitive matches

The Frenchman himself later hinted that Coman’s departure was not completely harmonious internally

In an interview with L’Équipe, the 29-year-old explained: „At the very end of the transfer, there were things that made the situation more complicated – which I won’t mention here.“

Coman was particularly revealing in his description of the situation at the time: „I wasn’t forced out, but I was told that the club was open to leaving due to its financial situation.“

„Part of the club wanted to see me go“

The departure also seemed to have left its mark emotionally

Coman went on to explain: „I had the love of the coach, the fans, some board members … but not everyone.“

And even more clearly: „There was a part of the club that wanted to see me go.“

According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the transfer even caused misunderstandings internally at FC Bayern. Sports director Max Eberl is said to have originally assumed that he would be allowed to reinvest the proceeds from the Coman sale directly in new transfers

However, the supervisory board only allowed loan deals, meaning that Coman’s departure ultimately became a highly sensitive issue at Säbener Straße, not only in sporting terms but also internally.
