After their spectacular quarter-final victory against Real Madrid, FC Bayern are now facing their next big challenge: Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions, await them in the semi-finals of the Champions League. For TV pundit Dietmar Hamann, one thing is clear: this duel is absolutely top-class – with a slight advantage for the French side
In his Sky column, the former international went into raptures: „The two best teams will meet in the semi-final between PSG and Bayern. It will be a top-class summit meeting,“ explained Hamann and already announced another offensive spectacle
While statistical models slightly favor FC Bayern, Hamann sees the starting position somewhat differently. For him, PSG is just ahead – albeit only slightly. „I see the odds at 51:49 for PSG,“ said the 51-year-old
An assessment that coincides with the opinion of Bayern boss Jan-Christian Dreesen, who also does not see the Munich team as the favourites. Respect for the defending champions is high – and not without reason

Hamann identifies one central problem area at FC Bayern in particular: the defence. Against Real Madrid, Munich already had repeated problems with fast attacking players. This is precisely where the TV pundit also sees major risks against PSG. „Bayern had problems against the fast Real strikers, and it will be no different against Paris‘ attack,“ Hamann analysed
PSG playmaker Vitinha is a key player in midfield and could use his ball security and vision to thwart Bayern’s aggressive style of play
Hamann’s clear warning: A permanently high pressing style could become a risk against Paris, as PSG consistently exploit precisely these spaces
Despite all the tactical concerns, Hamann highlights one of Munich’s key strengths: their mentality
The dramatic victory against Real was above all a question of willpower. „They said: Only one team can progress here – and that’s us,“ praised the former professional
This ability to come back in difficult moments and turn games around could be the decisive factor in the semi-finals
FC Bayern showed against Real that they can hold their own at the highest level – both athletically and mentally. But the challenge will be even greater against PSG. The mixture of individual class, tactical discipline and mental strength will decide who makes it to the final
For Hamann, one thing is clear: Munich are absolutely on a par – but will have to step up their game, especially defensively, to defeat the defending champions.
