Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been discussed as an option internally by Chelsea, although a deal isn’t easy according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues were expected to be quiet in the January window but injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile has meant the club have had to reconsider.

Chelsea are light at centre back and despite Josh Acheampong impressing in that position on his first Premier League start again Palace, there’s a possibility the Blues could dip into the market.

Chelsea have discussed Guehi internally

The Blues have already recalled Argentine teenager Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Boca Juniors, whilst it’s also been reported they are considering recalling Trevoh Chalobah, who despite initial reports does have a recall clause.

January can be a difficult time to buy and often leads to clubs overpaying for targets, but the Blues find themselves in a situation where they need to decide if it’s a better decision to bring Chalobah back for example or go and sign a new centre back.

Romano has reported the Blues have discussed Crystal Palace captain Guehi internally, but a deal for the 24-year-old won’t be easy.

“Marc Guehi has been discussed as an option internally at Chelsea, not easy, but he has 18 months left on his contract,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

Guehi came through the ranks at Chelsea before being sold to Palace in 2021, but any potential deal would see the Blues get 20% off due to the sell on clause they inserted as part of the deal which took him to Selhurst Park.

Palace wanted upwards of £65m in the summer for Guehi with Newcastle having multiple bids rejected, and it has been reported the Blues are in pole position for his signature.

The England international is certainly an interesting option and given the sell on clause the Blues would be able to get themselves a good price, and could even use Chalobah as part of any potential deal.

It feels like things are starting to gather momentum and it’s certainly one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
