The current European champions, both in national teams and club teams, have won the awards for the world's best goalkeepers at the Ballon d'Or. Gigi Donnarumma, currently at Manchester City, and Hannah Hampton, of Chelsea, claimed the Yashin Award.
Signed by City in the last transfer window, Donnarumma earned the title of the world's best goalkeeper for his season in Paris. The Italian goalkeeper secured PSG's goal during the unprecedented Champions League title campaign and the continuation of their national dominance.
Donnarumma received the award for the second time in his career, having previously won it in 2021, and broke the streak of Emiliano Martínez, who had won the trophy in the recent seasons.
In addition to the Argentine, Donnarumma won the award against Alisson, from Liverpool, Yassine Bono, from Al Hilal, Lucas Chevalier, from Lille, Thibaut Courtois, from Real Madrid, Jan Oblak, from Atlético de Madrid, David Raya, from Arsenal, Matz Sels, from Nottingham Forest, and Yann Sommer, from Inter Milan.
On the women’s side, the spotlight fell on England’s own Hannah Hampton. The Chelsea shot-stopper was crowned the world’s best female goalkeeper, fresh from helping the Lionesses to European glory.
It was a season of silverware all round for Hampton, who also played her part in Chelsea’s domestic dominance, as the Blues swept up three national titles.
Hampton, aged 24, outperformed the competition from Ann-Katrin Berger, from Gotham FC, Cata Coll, from Barcelona, Chiamaka Nnadozie, from Brighton, and Daphne van Domselaar, from Arsenal.
