Donnarumma: I feel like I’ve been at City for years | OneFootball

Gianluigi Donnarumma says he feels completely at home at City already.

The Italian goalkeeper started his career with the Blues in style with a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Manchester United last Sunday.

And his impressive debut was enhanced with a superb save from Bryan Mbeumo with the score at 2-0 – a save that was particularly appreciated by Erling Haaland seconds after as he congratulated his new team-mate.And the Italy No.1 admits the pair have quickly forged a close friendship.

“Aside from being a fantastic player, one of the best in the world if not the best, he’s a fantastic person as well,” said Donnarumma.

“That’s what makes him even better in a way, and I have an incredible relationship with him, he immediately welcomed me.

“It feels like I've been here for many years the way they’ve all welcomed me.

“I'm really proud of that - the attitude of a team has to be that it has to be like a family, and when a teammate saves a goal you all have to celebrate like it’s a goal scored by the team.

“That's important for me. We have to be united on and away from the pitch. It was a huge thing, the result against United, for us to go higher and higher.”

Asked if had been a strange summer for him, having won the Champions League, played at the Club World Cup and then joined City, Donnarumma said: “Well, I was very clear. My desire was to come here.

“That was my first and only option, the only thing I wanted. So I won’t talk about the future, but as I’ve already said my only choice was to come here, the only one.

“So I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be here at City and be part of this fantastic team, this fantastic family and give so much to these colours, and to this badge. I hope to do it for many years to come.

“One of the objectives we have here, we always have to dream big but do it with humility, that’s the most important thing, we have to think about match after match, tomorrow will be a difficult one, the first one in the Champions League is always the most complex one, and we’ll do it with a huge team against a huge team.

“I know Napoli well, the city, the coach, and some of my teammates from the national team are there.“It’s a great team we are playing against, and I will say this in the changing room.”
