Felix Nmecha’s World Cup participation with Germany is under threat due to the knee injury he suffered earlier this month.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed the seriousness of the situation on Sunday.

“This is an injury that is not insignificant, and there is undoubtedly a risk that he might not be able to play at the World Cup,” Nagelsmann said, adding that it would be a “huge loss” for Germany to see the Borussia Dortmund midfielder ruled out.

However, the Germany coach also said he remains optimistic that Nmecha will be fully fit for the tournament.

“I am hopeful that he will be able to play and that everything will go well. He has an excellent body and strong musculature. He can compensate for a lot,” the coach said.

“I am in good spirits. He is optimistic, I am too, and so are the doctors.”
