Sean Dyche has said he has waited a ‘long time for that moment’ after leading Nottingham Forest to a 2-0 win over Porto.
Dyche marked his first game in charge with an impressive victory over the Portuguese side at the City Ground. Penalties from Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus sealed success, ending an 10-game winless run in all competitions.
Porto had arrived in Nottingham unbeaten this season, but departed defeated as Dyche celebrated a debut win.
The 54-year-old was named as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement earlier this week, returning to the club where he progressed through the ranks. During his playing career, Dyche left Forest without making a first-team appearance and admits the win was a long-term ambition fulfilled.
“I’d waited a long time for that moment. As a young person here in ’87 all I wanted to do was wear the shirt,” he reflected.
“To come back as the manager is super pleasing and to stand there and absorb it, I’ve learnt in life sometimes you have to slow your thinking down and take it in.
“So many big moments in life have been so nerve-wracking they just go and suddenly they are finished. So I thought ‘take it in and put it in the memory.'”
