Ederson says he visualised the final moments of our historic 2023 Champions League final victory five days before it happened.

The Brazilian goalkeeper left City earlier this week after eight incredible years in Manchester.

He claimed an astonishing 18 major honours during that time, including playing a pivotal role in our maiden Champions League success.

City had reached the Istanbul showpiece by sweeping aside Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but struggled for fluidity on the night against Inter.

The goalkeeper was required to make several outstanding saves, including a diving punch clear in the very final moments.

However, it wasn’t a surprise to him when that ball came his way because he’d seen it all in his mind earlier that week!

Speaking in his final interview at City before heading to join up with new club Fenerbahce, he recounted the whole occasion.

“Wow, what a night,” he began.

“It was a long, long day. The game was in the night and in the morning I was very nervous. I practised yoga and meditation.

“I spoke to my psychologist. She said to me to imagine the final and when the game has finished. This was five days before the match.

“I said to her, we are winning 1-0 and in the last moment of the game they cross, I punch and the game finishes. I imagined that and the game was quite the same.

“There was a cross, header and I make the save. After I said that she put that in me and it was realised.

“What a day, what a season.”

Pep Guardiola had regularly praised his goalkeeper’s performances that season, stating that the triumph would not have been possible without him.

Ederson agreed, picking out that term as him at his peak.

“For sure, that was my best season,” he said.

“Only two [Premier League] teams have won the Treble. United and City. We’ve made history.”

Only Bernardo Silva has played more games under Pep than Ederson, with the Brazilian turning out 372 times across his eight years.

Having arrived as a 23-year-old with limited senior experience, the goalkeeper credited Guardiola and goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor for their impact on moulding him into the player he has become.

“With Pep, for me it’s so easy. He helped so that I can see the game and how the other teams press you,” he said.

“I am so calm and he told me to take my time to take the right decision.

“When I was young I played futsal before I started to play football and I think that helped me a lot to play with my feet.

“With Xabi, eight years he has been listening to me for a lot of things. He has been my confidant in the club.

“If I have a problem I ask him, if I have a good day I tell him too. A lot of memories, every day for eight seasons.

“I’ve stayed more close to Xabi than Pep because he is goalkeeping coach and that’s normal.

“But all I can say is thank you very much to both and all the staff because if these people are not here it’s not possible.”
