Rob Edwards and Keith Andrews, once Wolves team-mates, will be in opposite dugouts at Molineux on Saturday, with the home side needing a result more than a reunion.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, it is a rare Premier League sight at the ground, and the first since Graham Hawkins and Bobby Gould led Wolves and Coventry in 1983/84. Hawkins also faced Emlyn Hughes the previous season, while Stan Cullis and Billy Wright opposed each other in the 1960s. Next summer’s World Cup will also feature former Wolves managers Stale Solbakken with Norway and Julen Lopetegui with Qatar.
Edwards welcomes his old colleague, now Brentford boss Andrews, to a venue where they lined up together during 2004/05. Former left-back Lee Naylor, who played with both, says their personalities differ but their standards align, and that players would relish working for either.
Shropshire-born Edwards, 42, spent four years at Wolves from 2004, making 111 appearances across central defence and full-back. Andrews, 45, arrived from Dublin at 15, came through the academy and featured 72 times before departing in 2005 at 24.
Naylor recalls a youth setup brimming with talent, with the likes of Robbie Keane, Matt Murray, Joleon Lescott and Adam Proudlock emerging. He felt Andrews was a fine technician who wanted the ball, while Murray remembers his competitiveness, strong tackling and clean striking.
