Effenberg questions Rocco Reitz amid RB Leipzig transfer links

Stefan Effenberg has cast doubt on Rocco Reitz’s form as the Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder is linked with RB Leipzig.

Following confirmation that Xaver Schlager will leave Leipzig on a free this summer, Reitz has been widely touted as a preferred replacement. Speaking on Sport1’s Doppelpass, Effenberg said recent displays do not justify the interest.

He added he is not at all satisfied with the 23-year-old’s development and questioned whether the growing hype matches his current level.

Effenberg suggested the captain’s armband, worn during the absence of injured veteran Tim Kleindienst, has increased the pressure on Reitz. He said the young central player needs guidance alongside him and has been in a slump for several weeks.

Reitz is under contract at Gladbach until the summer of 2028.
