Leeds United have confirmed that South African great Lucas Radebe has been appointed as official club ambassador.

The announcement was made at half time of the Premier League clash with Bournemouth where the Elland Road crowd gave him hero's welcome.

Who's Lucas Radebe?

Nicknamed The Chief, Radebe joined Leeds from Kaizer Chiefs in 1994 and went on to make 262 appearances before retiring in 2005.

He became captain in 1998 and led the Whites to 3rd place league finish in 1999/2000 securing Champions league football.

The following season, he helped them reach the semi final.

Impact Beyond the Pitch

Radebe’s influence extended far outside football. He spearheaded anti racism campaigns & educational projects in Leeds earning the FIFA Fair Play Award in 2000 and the PFA Merit Award in 2010.

Nelson Mandela once called him his "hero" highlighting his global stature.
