Ruben Amorim is yet to be convinced Senne Lammens is ready to be the number one at Manchester United.
Lammens joined United from Royal Antwerp on deadline day in September. However, the Belgian shot-stopper had to wait until last weekend for his debut in Manchester.
Against Sunderland on Saturday, Amorim finally dropped the shaky Altay Bayındır in favour of his new signing. Lammens seemingly grabbed the opportunity with both hands, delivering a standout display as the Red Devils recorded their first clean sheet of the season in their 2-0 win.
However, a report in Spain suggests Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper in January.
According to Fichajes, United want to strengthen their goalkeeping department by adding a top goalkeeper to their ranks, and Emiliano Martinez has emerged as their leading target.
It is understood Amorim is demanding a new shot-stopper, forcing United to reignite their interest in the Aston Villa number one.
The Premier League giants tried to sign the World Cup winning Argentine in the final days of the summer window before securing the services of Lammens.
However, the 23-year-old only played one full season in the Belgian Pro League before his high-profile transfer to England. It is suggested that Lammens is regarded as a prospect, rather than an immediate option at Old Trafford.
The Spanish outlet claim United want to “finalise the signing” of the Argentina international during the January transfer window.
In September, The Athletic reported that any deal for Martinez would have cost in excess of £30m in the summer. As such, it is not far-fetched to assume that Villa would demand a similar figure six months later.
Having said that, the club’s hierarchy would be wise to keep faith in Lammens.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the youngster has impressed coaches at Carrington with his mentality and work ethic in training.
