Earlier today, the Real Madrid Electoral Board approved the candidacy of Florentino Perez for the upcoming presidential elections.
Now, all eyes on his potential rival, Enrique Riquelme, to officially present his candidacy and get it approved by the Electoral Board.
Now, according to COPE (h/t Madrid Zone), Real Madrid are on the verge of their first presidential elections in two decades, following confirmation that Enrique Riquelme will personally visit the club’s offices this afternoon.
The businessman is scheduled to arrive to officially finalise and submit all the necessary paperwork required to formalise his position as an official Real Madrid presidential candidate.
This development marks a monumental shift in the institutional landscape of the club.
If the Electoral Board certifies Riquelme’s submitted candidacy as completely valid, confirming that he fulfills every strict financial and structural condition required by the club’s statutes, the official Real Madrid election process will begin tomorrow.
Such an outcome would trigger the first contested presidential elections at the Santiago Bernabeu since 2006, ending a 20-year period dominated by uncontested terms.
The upcoming hours remain critical as the Electoral Board reviews the documentation to determine if the club will enter a historic voting cycle.
As has already been reported, Riquelme has grand plans for his project at Real Madrid, with the Spanish businessman targeting moves for Jurgen Klopp and Erling Haaland.
When asked about the possibility of bringing in the German tactician and the Manchester City superstar, Riquelme was coy in his response, saying:
“Haaland and Klopp to Real Madrid if I win? The best ones have to be at Real Madrid and they always have been. The best ones always want to come to the best club.”
