This season, Darmian and Dumfries have vied for the starting spot on the right flank at Inter.

That has been very much the case for a few seasons now. Ever since Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach, he has regularly given both of the two wingbacks starts on the right.

Moreover, typically whichever of Darmian or Dumfries has not started matches has come off the bench.

Since the start of last season, however, it has been Darmian who has tended to start.
